Facelift Mexico: Face Lift Surgery in Tijuana
When you see yourself in the mirror, are you disappointed with the visible signs of facial aging in your reflection? Do you have horizontal bands across your neck or sagging skin under your chin that resembles a “turkey wattle” or jowls?
If so, you might benefit from undergoing facelift surgery with VIDA Wellness and Beauty in Tijuana. Our board-certified plastic surgeons are experts at combating noticeable signs of aging throughout the face while delivering natural-looking results.
When to Get a Facelift Surgery
Over time, the body slowly halts the production of two essential proteins that maintain healthy, elastic skin: collagen and elastin. The skin starts to sag without these proteins, also known as skin laxity. Fat is displaced. Muscle tone declines. These developments cause visible signs of aging to appear throughout the face.
In addition, environmental factors such as frequent exposure to pollution, lifestyle choices such as smoking, and certain hereditary traits can accelerate the aging process.
If you are experiencing the bothersome aesthetic effects of the natural aging process — wrinkles, deep furrows, severe facial folds, jowls, sagging skin throughout the aging neck area, or hollow pockets throughout the face — it might be time to pursue a facelift in Mexico.
What Happens During a Facelift Procedure?
Facial rejuvenation surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis and used general anesthesia or “twilight sedation.” We recommend that out-of-town facelift procedure patients recover at VIDA Wellness and Beauty’s relaxing recovery boutique so that we can provide 24-hour nursing care after your plastic surgery.
Facelift Surgery
The exact surgical approach to facelift surgery, including the type of incisions, varies by patient. During the cosmetic surgery consultation, your experienced plastic surgeon evaluates your facial structure and reviews your aesthetic concerns before suggesting an appropriate treatment protocol.
The traditional approach to facelift surgery involves making an incision on both sides of the face, starting at the temple and extending downward toward the ear, terminating either behind the ear or in the scalp region.
Once your plastic surgeon has made the incisions, he carefully lifts a skin flap, so he can repair the supporting tissue structures and musculature.
The surgeon re-distributes any displaced fat. He pulls the residual skin taut and excises the excess skin before closing the incisions with the technique that best conceals the incision sites.
Lower Face Lift
Different plastic surgery patients will have different aesthetic goals, and thus, require a different approach to facial rejuvenation surgery. Depending on your cosmetic goals, it is possible that your problem area is mainly on your forehead, or on your cheeks.
If signs of aging in your face are concentrated in one area, your surgeon might recommend a lower facelift, mid-facelift, or upper facelift in place of a full facelift.
A full facelift will treat your entire face, usually from your forehead to your jawline and in some cases, include an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty). An upper facelift focuses on the area above your eyes, a mid-facelift focuses on your nose, cheeks, and upper mouth, while a lower facelift, the most common, focuses on the area below your mouth. A lower facelift is very popular because it can address some of the most common signs of aging, including:
- The nasolabial folds
- Sagging jowls and jawline
- Neck. Most patients undergoing a lower facelift combine this procedure with a neck lift.
Is a Face Lift Safe?
It is normal for facelift patients to wonder about the safety of facelift surgery. Facelift surgery is generally very safe, but just like any other surgical procedure, there are risks and potential complications to consider. These include:
- General anesthesia risks
- Poor wound healing and scarring
- Facial nerve injury
- Hair loss at the incisions (temporary or permanent)
- Swelling and bruising
The best thing you can do to make your facelift surgery as safe as possible is to go to an accredited plastic surgery facility and be seen by a board-certified plastic surgeon, with experience in facial rejuvenation procedures.
A qualified plastic surgeon will be able to explain in detail the complications of the facelift and the steps taken to put your health and safety first.
Male Facelift
Male facelifts are among the most requested plastic surgeries in recent years. With a facelift surgery in Mexico, men can achieve a younger, better-rested look that preserves strong and defined features.
At VIDA we understand that men interested in facial rejuvenation surgery want to erase signs of aging without sacrificing their masculine features, which is why our team of plastic surgeons carefully designs the surgery with this in mind. During your initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss the following:
- His experience with male facelifts, including showing you pictures of actual patients
- How he is planning to place the incisions, working with your hairline
- Your aesthetic desires and expectations for the procedure
- If your facial hair is going to be affected by the treatment
As for pricing, the average cost for a facelift surgery in Mexico is $10,000 USD. Men’s facelift costs are not different from when the procedure is performed on a woman, however, this price can vary. The final price for male patients is determined by their aesthetic objectives, whether they are getting a full or lower facelift, and their overall treatment needs.
Are There Other Surgical Options?
Mini Facelift
If you don’t want to get a traditional face lift but you don’t mind the idea of surgery, you might want to consider a mini facelift. Unlike a traditional facelift, with a mini facelift procedure, you can achieve similar results with a smaller incision.
Traditional facelifts often start with an incision at the temples near the hairline. That incision goes around the ear and ends at the lower part of the scalp. With a mini facelift, there is only one small incision made at the temples that go around the ears. Mini facelift results are less extreme than those that come with a traditional face lift. But, for people with just a bit of sagging skin or a few wrinkles, a mini facelift can be a great alternative with less healing time.
Neck Lift
Besides a mini facelift, you can also adjust the appearance of your face by considering a neck lift. You might think that you have sagging skin around the bottom part of your face, jaw, and chin. But, getting a neck lift could actually help to remedy that. A neck lift can help with “sagging jowls,” which can give your face the appearance of being tighter and higher.
Brow Lift
A drooping brow line can make you look exhausted or concerned, even when you do not feel that way. A brow lift cosmetic surgery can help. Our plastic surgeons can take the endoscopic approach to brow lift surgery, which is much less invasive than the traditional “open” approach and often leads to a quicker recovery period. The endoscopic approach involves making several small incisions in the brow lift treatment area, through which the surgical instruments are inserted. One of the surgical instruments used in an endoscopic brow lift is a long, thin device with a camera on the end of it that transmits a video feed from inside the treatment area onto a screen in the operating room. This allows the surgeon to monitor brow lift surgical progress.
Facelift Recovery Timeline
In the next video, one of our plastic surgeons, Dr. Quiroz, explains the care you should have during the next two weeks after a face and neck lift surgery.
The recovery period for a facelift is generally about two weeks. Many postoperative symptoms subside within one week, but it typically takes closer to two weeks for all visible signs to become less noticeable and for you to feel comfortable.
In order to know what to expect after a facelift, we created a general recovery timeline that examines the progress you can expect after your facelift surgery.
It is important to keep in mind that individual results and pain thresholds vary for all plastic surgery patients, so your recovery might be longer or shorter. If you are also having a neck lift, or just had a lower facelift, again, recovery times will vary.
- First 7 days of facelift recovery. The first days after surgery are the most uncomfortable, but with help from your doctor and pain medications, you’ll be feeling like yourself in no time. You’ll notice swelling and bruising, both of which can increase for the first 48 hrs post-surgery. On the third day, these start to dissipate and you’ll feel more comfortable. During these first days, you’ll need someone to help with simple tasks like driving you home from the clinic, running errands, and household chores. It is very important that you rest as much as possible and keep your head elevated at all times.
- 7 to 14 days of facelift recovery. At this stage, most patients report feeling more comfortable. Swelling and bruising decrease substantially while your general energy and strength will recuperate. You may need to go see the surgeon for a follow-up appointment where he will evaluate your progress and remove your stitches. At the end of this time period, most patients are clear to resume their normal routine as long as they are indoors and do not include strenuous activities.
- 2 weeks to a month of facelift recovery. The beginning of week 3 is usually great for patients. Swelling, redness, bruising, and numbness will be minimal or gone and most patients report feeling comfortable going out in public at this point. Patients will also be able to appreciate the full results of the surgery, without bruises or stitches present.
- Long-term facelift recovery. After a month has passed, most patients report very minimal discomfort and side effects. While residual tightness of the skin can take several months to fully disappear, it is barely noticeable at this point. Most patients are allowed to go back to exercising 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery.
Pain after a facelift. A lot of patients worry about how much pain they will feel, after all, the face is a very sensitive area of the body. The pain will vary from patient to patient, but your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to keep you comfortable.
As the swelling decreases, so will the pain and you’ll feel increasingly stronger with time.
When Can I Exercise After a Face Lift?
Patients are encouraged to take a break from their full exercise routines for at least 6 weeks. As a general guideline, you’ll be encouraged to take short walks as soon as you leave the clinic. Staying active will help your body heal and reduce swelling.
You should remember to take things slow for the first couple of weeks and avoid direct sunlight and sweating.
Two weeks after surgery, and if the doctor agrees, you may be able to do some more activities, but no weight lifting or contact sports. Most patients are cleared to exercise without restrictions 6 weeks after their facelift.
Always check with your doctor, regardless of how good and recuperated you feel.
When Can I Go Back to Work After a Face Lift?
Going back to work after your facelift can be a very delicate decision. You will likely have to take 7 to 10 days off from work for medical reasons.
After this, your doctor will most likely determine that it’s safe for you to return to work and other normal activities. Most patients also report feeling physically ready at this point too.
While you may feel energized and comfortable, your face will probably still show clear signs of the procedure: visible incisions, small bandages, swelling, or bruising. It is a very personal decision, and if you’d like to wait until your facelift becomes unnoticeable, then you should wait for 2 to 3 weeks after surgery before going back to the office.
Face Lift Scars: What to Expect
Facelift scars are practically invisible, even at a close distance, thanks to the techniques our plastic surgery team uses. As with any surgery, scars can only develop in the incision site, and during a facelift, your surgeon will carefully plan the incision placement in a hidden area of your face. Most of the incisions are placed inside the ear canal, behind the ear, and/or blended in with the hairline, and you don’t have to shave the area.
Your surgeon will either use surgical staples or self-dissolving sutures, making the incisions even less conspicuous.
You can also minimize the possibility of scarring by not scratching the incisions, protecting the area from the sun, staying hydrated, and not smoking.
