The board-certified plastic surgeons at VIDA Wellness and Beauty in Tijuana understand that enlarged breasts can be an embarrassing problem for many men.
Men with this condition (gynecomastia) often avoid taking their shirts off in certain social situations, such as at the pool, or try to conceal their enlarged breasts by wearing multiple shirts.
To help men suffering from gynecomastia improve the look of their breasts and restore their self-confidence, the VIDA plastic surgeons perform male breast reduction surgery.
Why Male Breast Reduction Is Needed
Some men have excess fat throughout the chest area. These men suffer from what is known as “pseudo-gynecomastia.”
Often, pseudo-gynecomastia is the result of weight gain and can be alleviated with diet and exercise.
Sometimes, however, localized fat deposits can become stuck under the skin throughout the chest area and are resistant to diet and exercise efforts. When this occurs, the unwanted fat must be removed with liposuction.
Other men have enlarged or excess glandular breast tissue throughout their chest area; this is known as true clinical gynecomastia. True gynecomastia can occur at any age but often occurs during adolescence or older age.
Although gynecomastia that develops during adolescence may resolve itself over time, it often persists into adulthood. In addition, hormonal fluctuations, the use of certain drugs, and substantial weight fluctuations can also cause true gynecomastia.
With true gynecomastia, the only effective treatment option is male breast reduction surgery to remove the excess breast tissue.
True gynecomastia is frequently brought on by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and androgen. The hormone that regulates breast growth, estrogen, is typically only produced in small amounts by men’s bodies.
Your breasts may enlarge if your body produces too much estrogen or if you have low testosterone (hypogonadism).
The most prevalent male breast disorder is gynecomastia. Around the world, 50 to 65 percent of boys and men are affected.
Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, and it occasionally appears unevenly. Adult men with gynecomastia frequently feel helpless about their condition.
Gynecomastia is treatable, which is good news. Most teenage boys with enlarged breasts will see them go away by the time they’re adults.
There are six forms of gynecomastia that our plastic surgeons treat with cosmetic surgery:
Type 1: Only the nipple/areola area has extra tissue. A tight and straight lateral chest fold can be seen.
Type 2: Breast tissue crosses the fold in the chest. The lateral chest fold is rounded and tightly formed.
Type 3: Extending breast tissue that folds across. The lateral chest fold is horizontal and exhibits little flexibility.
Type 4: The axilla and breast tissue are connected. In front of the armpit, there is a little breast roll known as the lateral chest fold.
Type 5: The axilla contains breast tissue. A breast function that reaches the back of the armpit is known as the lateral chest fold.
Type 6: The axilla contains breast tissue. A breast roll that wraps over to the back is called the lateral chest fold.
How Is Gynecomastia Surgery in Mexico Performed?
During male breast reduction surgery, the plastic surgeon may first perform liposuction throughout the chest and nipple area, as needed, to remove stubborn deposits of fat. He then makes an incision around the outer border of the areola, or the darkly pigmented skin surrounding the nipple.
Using this incision, the plastic surgeon excises any loose skin, if needed, and eliminates the excess glandular breast tissue in the area.
He can also reduce the size of an overly large areola by excising some of the areola skin from the outer perimeter of the areola, if necessary.
Once the surgeon is satisfied with the new contour of the chest area, he closes the incisions with dissolvable stitches and dresses the gynecomastia surgery treatment area with bandages.

Gynecomastia Surgery Recovery
Given that gynecomastia is typically an outpatient procedure, gynecomastia surgery patients are usually released into the care of an authorized adult, so they can recuperate at home.
Most gynecomastia surgery patients leave the hospital on the same day. VIDA Wellness and Beauty is also home to a comfortable recovery boutique where gynecomastia surgery patients can recuperate if they prefer.
After gynecomastia surgery, patients should expect to take about three days off of work, during which time they should rest as much as possible and avoid any strenuous activity, including exercise.
The gynecomastia surgery treatment area may be sore or tender, but any discomfort can be relieved by taking oral pain medication, as instructed by the physician.
Individuals who have undergone gynecomastia surgery will have to wear a compression garment over the gynecomastia surgery treatment area for several weeks to provide added support to the tissues while they heal and to minimize swelling in the area.
During the postoperative follow-up appointments, the VIDA board-certified plastic surgeon monitors the progress of recovery and lets the plastic surgery patient know when it is safe to resume normal activities, including his or her fitness routine.
Does Plastic Surgery Result In Scarring?
Many patients worry that gynecomastia surgery will result in scarring around the areas of the incision. Fortunately, the level of scarring in today’s plastic surgery operations is minimal. Most people will not be able to detect you’ve had plastic surgery when you go swimming or strip off for the beach.
