Our in-house bariatric expert, Dr. Gabriela Rodríguez has all the credentials an international patient can ask for. Since an early age, Dr. Rodríguez was interested in helping people. When she was only 13 years old, she worked as a certified paramedic. Later on, she became the youngest paramedic certified in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) by the American College of Surgeons.

When it was time to start her degree, Dr. Rodríguez’s heart was set on medicine. She studied general medicine in the School of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Baja California. There, she specialized in Bariatric Laparoscopic Surgery. To gain international experience, she worked hard and earned a place for her medical internship at the prestigious University of Texas. During this time, she worked at the UT Medical Center in Saint Luke’s Episcopal, Methodist, and Memorial Herman Hospital. This international experience shaped Dr. Rodríguez’s view of life. She decided to undertake a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Cardiovascular Investigation Center of The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases of the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston.

After completing her studies, she came back to Mexico and became a certified surgeon by the Mexican Council of General Surgery and as a Bariatric surgeon by the Mexican College of Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Medicine. As a recognition of her outstanding work and commitment towards bariatric patients, she was named Master Surgeon of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation.

She has a specialization in laparoscopic surgery and is experienced in gastric sleeve, bypass, and revision surgeries. For the last 10 years, Dr. Rodríguez has collaborated exclusively at VIDA Bariatrics and will continue to pursue her passion and commitment to bariatric patients.
